GRADING & EXPECTIONS
Attendance & Punctuality:
If you are not present within the first 20 minutes of class, you will not be counted as present. More than 2 unexcused classes absences will automatically reduce your grade. Each scheduled critique or deadline missed will lower your grade by 10%. Your absence diminishes the experience and growth for everyone in the class.
If you come to class unprepared to work on your assigned projects it will be regarded as having missed ½ a class.
If you are absent you must email me that day with a valid reason for your absence or it will be marked as unexcused. (custen@umbc.edu)
**There are no excused absences for Missing a DEMO or CRIT .. Missing ether will affect your grade. **
If you are absent you must call a classmate to learn what is missed and what to do in preparation for the next class session. The course requires a minimum of 8 hours of effort each week. Three hours in class, and at least three hours out of class every week, to complete minimum requirements.
Maintenance of the Print Studio:
Your care and attention to the studio and its equipment is absolutely required as part of the course work. Disregard to the Print Studio rules and care of the shop will diminish your grade.
IDEA LIBRARY:
Select a hardbound blank book of a convenient size to always have with you. Use this for ideas & note taking in class and on daily trips and to aid to your development as an artist. If you are conscientious about keeping up with your journal every day, you will have no problem in using your time effectively in class activities and you will achieve in this course. You are require to bring your journal to every class and you will be ask to show me your developing ideas at various times. If you do not have a collection of images in your journal it will effect your class grade.
GRADING:
EVALUATION: Your final grade for the course will be based on the following:
20% on your idea development and self-challenging research and use of your journal.
50% on your actual printed work using the criteria under “EVALUATION”
It covers Craftsmanship, Growth, Understanding, Originality, Effort, Completeness, Studio Safety and Studio Etiquette.
10% on your personal growth during the course as determined by my comparing your work at the beginning of the semester with your work and efforts at the end,
I am not talking about last minute cramming. Your involvement and efforts must be consistent.
20% on your class participation. This means critiques and working effectively with others in the studio. Cleaning up after yourself and others. Discussing techniques, ideas, compositions etc. This is a place to grow your artistic ideas. (always have your journal near at hand)
