ART375 - Photographic Processes of Printmaking
Course Policies:
There are 3 rooms that are used through out the class.
FA216 Clean Room
- No food drinks, inks, or any thing that will bring dirt into the room. It is the area where all paper cutting and curating is completed.
- All Flat files are off limits except your own drawer.
- Students that are not in one of the print classes are not allowed to come an work in the area.
- If there is a class in the room and a lecture or critique is taking place and you are not a part of that class then you cannot enter the room until the instructor has finished.
- Always lock up the room if you are the last person leaving.
FA 218 Screen Printing and Platemaker –Dirty Room
- The outer room is for screen printing and can be used to lay out some of your work that you maybe using for photomechanical processes.
- Screen Print Sink and Coating Room:
- The Back room is a screen coating are and a screen blow out sink area. No other work should be done in the screen blow out area or coating area.
Platemaker Exposing Unit
- The platemaker and exposing area is for exposing pre-sensitized litho plates, pre-sensitized etching plates, and photo emulsion coated screens.
- The Platemaker has two sides to its top .
- Side 1 is a deep well side that allows for thick objects to be exposed like screen prints.
- Side 2 is a shallow well side that is used for plate exposures like Lithography and Intaglio plates.
- Both sides have a vacuum that must be turned on for the appropriate side.
- Always lock the door handle down before flipping the top.
- Never leave the top unlocked.
- When you are finished with your exposure take your materials with you.

FA208 Print Press Room – Dirty Room
- The pressroom is a place to layout ink and perform the actual print process.
- This is the workspace for every student and it must be maintained in an orderly and congenial way. You often have to work near and around several other artists while producing your edition.
- Make sure you are not interfering with another students work. Also attempt to conserve the space that you take up.
- Give yourself enough time for clean up.
- Always put your materials away clean and in their proper place and position.
- The print room is a social interactive room you must be able to work with the other participants and interact in a proper congenial way.

- the instructor has finished.
- Always lock up the room if you are the last person leaving.
Further Important Rules & Room Policy:
- Always place the rollers on their feet!
- Only Use Mineral Sprits (Red Plunger Cans) or Oil to clean the rollers.
- Never use Alcohol, Acetone or Lacquer Thinner near any roller area.
- Never Gouge ink out of the can.
- Take only as much ink as is necessary.
- Never put ink back into a can.
- When mixing ink always start with the Lightest Ink first.
- Always try to conserve paper towels.
- No Oils down the sink NONE!!
- Always Print with a sheet of News Print as a backing.
