IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENT

Welcome!

Since for most of you thinking of yourself as a technical writer may be a new notion, I'd like you to recall your history as a writer. Your history can include talking about any writing experience you've had in the past, including essays written in high school or college, letters, journals, any and all writing you've ever done.

You can talk about how you feel about writing, the best writing you've ever done, what kind of writing you like to do, what you think makes writing good, what has influenced your writing. You can talk about your writing habits, where you write best, when you write, how many drafts you write. You can be specific or general in this first draft.

Here, for example, is one writer's comment about writing:

"I hate writing but I love having written."
    --Dorothy Parker
(Carbone, "Trying to Create a Community")

The length will be determined by your process, but you should make a serious effort to consider and respond to these questions for the next 25 minutes.
