CLASS
NOTES ASSIGNMENT
To keep a running record of the material we
cover in class, each of you will be responsible for taking and posting
classnotes for one class this session. In the working world, most people
attend meetings-often technical briefings-during which the business conducted
is "for the record." For future reference, a recording secretary
takes notes and writes up the minutes.
To give you practice in writing memos and organizing material, each of
you will assume the role of recording secretary for one session. Using
Burnett pages 497-499 as guidelines, write the minutes for the assigned
class session, post a copy to the classlist and bring a hardcopy to the
next class to be graded. The individual who takes classnotes/minutes becomes
our in-house resource for anyone who has questions about the material
covered.
Your audience is the class, both students present and students absent
that day.
Your purpose is to convey the essential information for that session.
Your content should include:
 |
announcements
(especially changes in readings or assignments)
|
 |
explanation
of new material and new assignments
|
 |
summary of lecture/discussion/workshop
(what we did and with what results)
|
 |
list of absentees
|
 |
all information
specified in Burnett, see especially figure 16.7
|
Minutes will be due the next class session.
I take volunteers for this assignment; each set of classnotes becomes
part of the class grade. See a sample of the assignment posted on your
list.
