Demoiselle is a kind of tribute to Alberto Santos Dumont, an aviation pioneer who was hot on heels of the Wrights, who flew his dirigibles around the Eiffel Tower (you can see photos online). He envisioned aviation to be a means of bringing people around the world together. When he witnessed airplanes being used to kill people during his home country Brazil’s civil war, he committed suicide.
