Introduction to the UMBC SystemThe UMBC database system is called the Andrew File System (AFS). This is the mainframe or central point of the University's data storage abilities. Every user of the AFS, including UMBC students, staff, and faculty, have an allotted 25 megabyte quota that includes the users e-mail account, personal data file storage, and “pub space” or Web space where public data files can be stored. As a student at UMBC, once you have created your myUMBC account, you automatically have 25 megabytes of data storage in the AFS available to you. Your “pub space” is called your “userpages” and can be accessed on the Web.
