The Graduate Program

 
 

Two routes are available to the M.S. degree in applied molecular biology. An intensive program completed in 9 months is intended for students who have completed their Bachelor's degree study. For UMBC undergraduates majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology or Biological Sciences there is the option of completing some of the requirements for the M.S. degree using courses taken during their baccalaureate career.

Fall Semester:

 
 

Biological Chemistry
Approaches to Molecular Biology

  • A project-based laboratory course in which the approaches and methodologies of molecular biology are taught in the context of independent research
 
Spring Semester:

 

  • Continuation of the laboratory course
Microbial Molecular Genetics
Eukaryotic Genetics and Molecular Biology
Completion of a scholarly paper concerning a special project performed as part of the laboratory course
