Applying for Admission

Applications for admission to any of our graduate programs are considered on a rolling basis. Students normally matriculate in the Fall semester, though Spring admissions can be considered in special circumstances.

Requirements

To be admitted to graduate study in the Department of Biological Sciences, a student must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university and have met the following prerequisites: Calculus (one semester)
  • Organic Chemistry (two semesters with laboratory)
  • Physics (two semesters)
  • Genetics (one semester)
  • Cell Biology (one semester)
  • Research experience (preferred but not required)

Application Materials

  • Completed graduate school application form
  • Official transcripts from all college-level institutions attended
  • Three letters from professional references
  • Statement of academic goals and research interests
  • Official report of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test
  • Official report of the GRE subject test in biology, chemistry or molecular biology (recommended but not required)
  • Official report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) from applicants whose native language is not English; a minimum score of 600 (paper) or 250 (computer-based) is required for admission
