Since electronic mail has become a common means of communications, it is important that you know how to use it and understand its use in the classroom. For that reason, it will be used as the primary mode of communication in this course. If you have not signed up for a computer account, please do so now.
At UMBC, the preferred software package for electronic mail is pine. There is an excellent guide available (see Pine). There is also a direct link to the official Pine information center. Please read the the first parts of the reference guide; if you have any trouble, student consultants are available in ECS 005 to answer any questions that you may have.
You find general information on electronic mail in some of the suggested reading. There are other general guides on electronic mail available, such as A Beginner's Guide to Effective Email or All you ever wanted to know about !!! E*M*A*I*L !!! and were afraid to ASK. at Columbia University.
