Developing a Plan

Before you create a Web page, it is useful to develop a design plan.

Suggestions

1. Determine the purpose of your Web site and Web pages.

• What type of site do you want to create?
• Who is your main audience?
• Are there other Websites or Web pages that are similar to yours?
• What features do they have?

2. Decide on the structure of your site and layout of your pages.

• Think about what types of graphics you want to include.
• Consider combining graphics and text to be complimentary and not overwhelming.
• Think about how many pages or screens your site will need to flow smoothly.

3. Decide which links to include and how many.
While you want to give your Web visitors as much additional information as they want or need, you also want to keep the focus on your own pages. Offer links that are related to your content and give your audience a path back to your own site.
