A possible course project: Course could be advertised saying the student would be buying a robot kit or several related kits that may cost about $300.00 . Having the student physically construct the kit and controls seems important to understanding the problems and capabilities. The course would cover robots current uses (various industrial types and some fun types) current capabilities and limitations performance characteristics components such as sensors, actuators, manipulators, computers programming, teaching, learning techniques A possible robot project: Assemble a mobile autonomous robot that has at least one gripper arm and at least one sensor. The robot must be able to move between two areas. The robot must be able to find objects in a given area. The robot must be able to pick up assigned objects and move carrying an object, and place the object in the other area. Obstacles may be present. Given two different types objects in an area, the robot must recognize the the type of an object, pick up the object, carry the object to another given area, and set the object down. Then, go back to the starting area, pick up the second object and move the second object to the right of where the robot placed the first object.
