1895

At age 30, Alma marries James Francis Herson, a 25 year old second generation Irishman. Born in 1869, he is an electrician educated to the 8th grade.

1898

William Friederici no longer goes by his parent nickname "Wilhelm" or Friederici. The 5' 8", blue eyed, fair haired William Fredericks is a plumber in Brooklyn.

William Fredericks, like his uncle Julius, had volunteered as a Private for the 14th New York Infantry, Company H in May, during the Spanish Civil War.

William never fought and was discharged in October (reason illegible).

1900

William is re-enlisted as a Private of the 7th Regiment, Company B of New York and in July and was again discharged from a Governors Island surgeon's certificate.

1901

At 35 years old, Alma gives birth to her first child, Alma Genevieve on June 16. Genevieve was probably after her sister Jennie.

 

1903

Alma gives birth to her first son, Francis (Franky) Herson.

 

1905

Alma gives birth to her second daughter, Evelyn Marie on February 23.

James and Alma's only two year son, Francis (Franky) dies.

 

1908

At age 43, Alma gives birth to her youngest child, and second son, James Thomas.

James Sr. is 39 years old and a motorman on a trolly.

 

1913

Almas husband, James T. Herson dies of tuberculosis in an institution in Ithica New York, leaving Alma with children ages 12, 8 and 5. (At 12 years old little Alma Genevieve, was the same age as her grandmother when in the 1850's, Amalie had lost her father.)

 

LEGEND

Alma Friederici Herson supported her children by working in a Brooklyn factory. She was fluent in German and English. Everyday she read the Daily News, and only during these few precious moments of reading, no one was allowed to disturb her.

Alma Friederici Herson lives in New Jersey with her 3 children. Jennie Friederici probably lives with them.

Young Alma Genevieve works as a bookkeeper at the New York Trust Co. [later called Chemical Bank].

Alma Genevieve meets Maddie (Arthur Moren) at the Bank, who worked as an auditor. #45

Aunt Jennie never marries.

William Fredericks also never marries.

 

1928

At 27, Alma Genevieve Herson marries 25 year old Maddie (Arthur Madison Moren) on September 1, in East Orange, NJ.

William Fredericks lives on a pension from the US military.

 

1935

February 8th, William Frederick dies at age 64 in Brooklyn. He is burried in Mount Hope Cemetery, New York. A cemetery for Veterans of United Spanish War. Grave No. 35, Row No. 130.

1936

Alma Friederici Herson leaves a handwritten will to divide her belongings evenly between her sister Jennie, her daughter Evelyn and her son Jimmy. She notes that Alma has Maddy and these three depend on her. She requests all her children be "good and honest."

December 21st, Alma Bettie Caroline Friederici Herson dies of Stomach Cancer at 72 years old. She is buried with her husband at the Cemetery of the Holy Cross in Brooklyn, NY. #46


1937

Jennie Friederici, the only surviving child of the Amalie and Ferdinand, moves to Ohio and probably lives with her niece Evelyn.

At age 32 Evelyn Herson marries William Johnson a 35 year old Book Keeper for Con Edison.

 

1938

On September 7, 30 year old James Thomas Herson Jr. marries Josephine Rosenbergen from the Bronx. He is an Electric Engineer.

1939

After years of fertility treatment, and while Alma is still 38, Alma and Maddy give birth to Carole Lee on December 20. Because Carole is their "miracle medical baby", Alma and Maddie believe Carole will be their only child.The name Carole can be traced to 1810. Alma Herson Moren probably named her daughter after her own mother, Alma Bettie Caroline. However, Alma B. Caroline's mother was born Caroline Auguste "Amalie" Jahn (later Friederici); and Amalies' mother, Carole's great great grandmother, was born Caroline Wilhemine Louis Hillman (later Jahn). Caroline Hillman was born in 1810 circa.

1941

At age 40, Alma gives birth to her second child, Arthur Madison Jr. on November 13, in Glen Ridge New Jersey.

1956

April 9, known only as "Aunt Jennie" to her living family, Jennie Clara Amalie Friederici died in Ohio at age 89.

 

1962

Carol Lee Moren marries David Swaim, who teaches math. They live in New Jersey.

March 31 in Chevy Chase Maryland, Art Moren marries Deanna Fay Looney (Dino) from West Sunbury Pennsylvania, a secretary for the US Navy. They are neighbors in Washinton DC where Art is a student at American University, studying economics.

 

(1960's)

Carol and Dave have four sons, Thomas Edwin "Tom", "Stephen" Glenn, "David" Glenn and "Mark" Andrew.

Art and Dino give birth to their only child, "Lisa" Joy.

Art, Dino and Lisa move to New Jersey.

(1968)

Maddie and Alma retire to a condominium in Boynton Beach Florida. The Moren Jr's visit them in Florida every July.

(1970's)

Carol and Dave have three daughters, "Linda" Joy, Deborah Lynn "Debbie" and "Janet" Grace.

Every September, Alma and Maddie stayed with their son and his family in Glen Rock, NJ. They visited friends and their two children's families including their 8 grandchildren. They also visited graves including one in Brooklyn. .

 

1978

Alma and Maddie celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by retaking their Marriage vows in the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Art and Dino Moren. Their 2 children, 8 grandchildren and friends joined them in their celebration. #45

Maddie sings "boola boola" in the car, whenever the speedometer reads "00".

 

1980's

Alma was diagnosed with Altzeimers disease. Maddie took care of her in their Florida home.

Maddy has health problems including liver problems.

1985

Lisa Moren graduates from Syracuse University with a BFA in Visual Art and lives in London.

NOVEMBER

Art and Dino Moren move to Connecticut.

"Maddie", Arther Maddison Moren Sr. dies of a heart attack.

Alma moves to Connecticut in a nursing home, near where Art and Dino live.

 

1989

On Easter Sunday, 5:15pm March 26, Alma Genevieve Herson Moren dies. Alma's memorial services are held in Connecticut. Alma was later buried with her husband in Florida.

 


The extended family attended Alma's memorial services. Dino Moren kept her promise to her mother-in-laws' wishes to keep the family together. Besides Alma and Maddie Moren's decendents, Dino has extended the family party to include Evelyn Johnsons descendents as well as James Hersons descendents.

Alma Friederici Herson had 3 children (Alma, Evelyn and Jimmie) and 6 grandchildren (Carol, Cliff, Art, Gerry and Bob and Jimmie). Most of her surviving grandchildren and Shirley Johnson (Cliffs widow), and most of her 17 great grand children, as well as the 15 great great grandchildren of Alma Friederici Herson and James T. Herson attend. With over 40 people attending annually, it has been organized and hosted by Art and Dino Moren since 1969 when Alma and Maddie Moren retired and moved to Florida.
