Dear Gustav!
Unfortunately I had gotten quite sick again, so that I couldnt
answer your dear letter any earlier. Very terrible vomiting of
bile in large quantities and weak nerves take quite a toll on
me. Now, as far as the America-affair is concerned, I have, after
endless searching, found the things (just now) and will send you
the same as soon as possible, since tomorrow or the day after
tomorrow, if I feel better, I will do you the favor of consulting
the original document files of the consulate-general. Anyhow,
serious fraud is the case here, in all probability committed by
the consul at that time [ Sandell]; back then that curmudgeon
also tricked that [wooden staff machine] upon Hugo. He seems like
an outright robber to me. Father received from Hugo, for which
he issued a receipt: 22 Reichsthaler, 24 Silbergroschen, 6 Pfennig.
Costs were: 7Rt 15sgr. 6pf, and, according to a letter from his
friend to me, Julius had 140 dollar outstanding
