Greetings From The Chair

Lasse Lindahl

We welcome your interest in the program in Applied Molecular Biology. Our goal is to offer you intensive, laboratory-centered training in biotechnology that is among the best in the nation. With small class sizes and an intimate working relationship with our faculty, you will in nine short months acquire cutting-edge skills that will enable you to quickly move into a rewarding carreer in the biotechnology industry. Or you may continue on to doctoral training with the advantage of a foundation in the techniques and approaches of molecular biology.

Good graduate education rests on many foundations: enthusiastic and gifted students, talented and dedicated faculty and staff, emphasis on the individual needs of students, good funding, and up-to-date research equipment. Our graduate programs have these qualities and an excellent nurturing environment as well.

A multifaceted, highly interactive education takes place in small courses, seminars, group meetings, and spontaneous discussions in laboratories. Students entering the program become valued members of our department. The faculty, assisted by our graduate coordinator, carefully guide and support our students through each phase of their graduate education.

If our graduate offerings match your interests, please call us to arrange a visit to the department and the UMBC campus. Thank you again for your interest, and I wish you success in your pursuit of graduate education.
