Senior Year Affiliate ProgramBeginning with the 2001-2002 academic year the Applied Molecular Biology Program will begin a special program to allow current undergraduates to learn more about the program. Current Juniors during the 2000-2001 academic year should apply for this program. Those with records of accomplishment consistent with their admission to the AMB M.S. program (GPA of 3.0 or above with Junior standing in an appropriate academic discipline) may be admitted the affiliate program. Although we can not guarantee admission to the AMB class of 20022003, admission decisions will take participation in the program into consideration. Membership in this program will provide opportunities to meet and speak with current and former AMB students, visit the AMB laboratory and receive guidance to in course selection while still an undergraduate so as to minimize the expense of completing a fifth year of study for the M.S. degree. Students in this program will be encouraged to become involved in research in faculty laboratories so that they may gain valuable experience before entering the AMB program. We will provide help in placing students in laboratories. An end-of-the-year symposium will allow program students to present the results of that work to their peers, AMB master's students and faculty. Even if you do not continue study in the AMB program, participation in this program will provide experience useful for a further degree program here or at another university, or in a post-UMBC position in the biotechnology industry.
