Postdoctoral Researcher, Microsoft Research, Sep 2002 - Aug 2004
Manager: Dr. Surajit Chaudhuri
Designed and implemented a tool to automatically map XML data to relational data
for storage and query. The tool makes it much more convenient for
different organizations and companies to share data in XML format.
Research Assistant, Cornell University Jan 1998 - Aug 2002
Adviser: Prof. Johannes Gehrke and Prof. Praveen Seshadri
Designed and implemented a compressed database system that uses compression
techniques to improve database query performance. This is the first system that
integrates compression into all aspects of database systems. Another work is a
novel compression method for low-power mobile devices such as PDAs and cell
phones, which achieves both better compression and faster decompression than
existing methods.
Research Intern, AT\&T Laboratories Aug 1999 - Sep 2000
Designed and implemented algorithms and data structures to give quick and
accurate estimation of the result size of queries on text or XML data. This can
be used in web search engines to allow user to quickly refine queries based on
the estimate.
Research Intern, IBM T.J. Watson Research Center May 1998 - Aug 1998
