Scott A. Bass, Ph.D.
Dean of the Graduate School, Vice Provost for Research
Dr. Bass is the newly appointed Dean of the Graduate School, Vice Provost
for Research,
and Distinguished Professor of Sociology. He comes to UMBC from the
University of Massachusetts, Boston, where he served as founding director
of the Gerontology Institute and Professor in the College of Public and
Community Service. While at UMASS, Dr. Bass established the nation's
second doctoral program in Gerontology and served as a delegate to the
White House Conference on Aging. He currently serves as co-editor of the
Journal of Aging and Social Policy. Dr. Bass holds a B.A., M.A., and
Ph.D. in Psychology, all from the University of Michigan.
David R. Gleason, Esq.
Technology Administrator
David joined OTD in 1992 after serving as corporate counsel for
a federal contract services firm. He graduated from Virginia
Military Institute and Southwestern University School of Law.
He is responsible for managing the Office of Technology Development;
negotiating license agreements, product development agreements,
material transfer agreements, and confidentiality agreements;
reviewing conflict of interest cases; overseeing protection of
intellectual property; and chairing the patent advisory council.
Wendy C. Martin, MBA
Marketing Coordinator
Wendy received her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from UMBC
and her MBA from Loyola College. She worked in the medical research
field at UMAB for seven years before joining UMBC's Office of
Technology Development in 1995. Her responsibilities include
working with the faculty to evaluate technologies suitable for
marketplace promotion and legal protection; identifying potential
commercialization opportunities for the technologies disclosed
to OTD; and cultivating relationships between researchers and
the business community.
Shu-Chu Chang, M.S.
Information Management Assistant
Shu-Chu is responsible for the design and maintenance of the OTD
database system utilizing MS-ACCESS. He provides training and
technical support for end-users in utilizing the system. He is
the creator and monitor of the OTD homepage. He is a graduate
student in the Information Systems Department at UMBC. Click

Amy Gethmann
Clerical Assistant
Amy is a sophomore geography major at UMBC. She is responsible
for entering information into the OTD database; maintaining office
file records; and printing OTD brochures and the IPO booklet used
for distribution. She plans on continuing her eduction in the
environmental studies area.
