POST DOCTORAL POSITION IN POLLUTANT FATE AND TRANSPORT RESEARCH
One post-doctoral associate position is available starting January 2019 in the Department of Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). The selected candidate will be expected to work with Dr. Upal Ghosh on two research projects focused on the fate and transport of pollutants in the aquatic environment. The first project will evaluate the ongoing sources of pollutants (PCBs, PAHs, and pesticides) in two major rivers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed through field sampling and fate and transport modeling. The second project will develop a novel passive sampling approach for strongly hydrophobic compounds including dioxins and furans. The candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with external partners including the DC Dept. of Energy and Environment, US Geological Survey, and The Army Corps Engineer Research and Development Center. The post doc will be expected to work closely with a Ph.D. student and undergraduate students, and help in the training and mentoring of the students. The employee will also assist Dr. Ghosh in drafting project reports, making presentations to sponsors, writing new proposals, and drafting publications.
A Ph.D. is required, with preference for candidates having a background in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Civil and Environmental Engineering. Research experience in one or more of the following fields is desirable: fate, transport and bioavailability of persistent pollutants, aquatic food-web modeling, water quality modeling, sediment remediation, passive sampling measurement of PCBs in water, and biological uptake assessments.
Review of applications will begin Dec 1, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should send a cover letter highlighting their relevant experience and research interests, curriculum vitae, a list of three references, and copies of 1 or 2 publications as a single pdf file to: Dr. Upal Ghosh, Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Technology Research Center Room 257, 1000 Hilltop Circle, TRC 102, Baltimore, MD 21227
