Introduction to Thermophysics by Thomas Espinola
Homework is due one week from the day it is assigned unless stated otherwise. It must be handed in before class starts. No late homework is accepted. Homework solutions will hopefully be posted somewhere near the Physics Department office. There will be two mid-term exams and a final exam. Your grade will be determined as follows:
Homework:
20%
Mid-Terms:
25%each
Final Exam:
30%
The first mid-term exam will most likely be given in the middle of October plus or minus one week.

You might consider purchasing a Schaum's Outline in Thermodynamics for the first half of the course.

Using the World Wide Web in Physics 303

Instead of using class handouts, most information concerning class will instead be published on the World Wide Web. You can view class documents using Mosaic on the ACS Mac's and PC's, and using either Mosaic on UNIX (if you are using an X11 graphics terminal) or lynx on UNIX (if you are using a character-based telnet/vt100 terminal).

The Physics 303 World Wide Web documents will contain homework assignments, due dates, hints for solving problems, notices of upcoming exam dates, etc. I may also post answers to commonly asked questions. The quickest way to communicate with me is often Email, which I read several times a day and sometimes at night at home.

The URL for Physics 303 is "http://umbc7.umbc.edu/~strow/p303/PHYS303.html". With lynx, type "g" and then this URL. Using Mosaic, there should be a menu under File that lets you enter the URL you wish to access. To use lynx under UNIX, just type "lynx" at the UNIX prompt. Similarly, to use Mosaic under UNIX, just type "xmosaic" at the UNIX prompt.
