Sponsored research depends critically on the presentation of results, which is rapidly becoming dependent on state--of--the--art visualization techniques. UMBC researchers should have access to hardcopy, video, and audio equipment for presentation purposes equivalent to their peers in universities/industry/government. This would include availability of film writers to make color slides or transparencies from graphics files in standard formats prepared on PC, Macintosh, or UNIX workstations, with a quick turnaround time.
Faculty also should have access to high-end visualization tools for use in research; not all faculty with a need for such tools will have sufficient external funds for purchase of a high-end workstation and graphics monitor.
