The quizes will usually be given each Friday, and will only last 5-10 minutes. They will generally have two questions; (1) a very short request for some law or relationship in the text, and (2) a relatively simple question that might require a bit of calculation. These quizes are designed to help you keep up with class and will cover material presented from the previous 3 lectures. I reserve the right to change the frequency of the quizes, and when they are given.
Instead of using class handouts, most information concerning class will instead be published on the World Wide Web. You can view class documents using Netscape on the ACS Mac's and PC's, and using either Netscape on UNIX (if you are using an X11 graphics terminal) or lynx on UNIX (if you are using a character-based telnet/vt100 terminal).
The Physics 321 World Wide Web documents will contain homework assignments, due dates, hints for solving problems, notices of upcoming exam dates, etc. I may also post answers to commonly asked questions. The quickest way to communicate with me is often Email, which I read several times a day and sometimes at night at home.
The URL for Physics 321 is "http://umbc7.umbc.edu/~strow/P321/". With lynx, type "g" and then this URL. Using Netscape, there should be a menu under File that lets you enter the URL you wish to access. To use lynx under UNIX, just type "lynx" at the UNIX prompt. Similarly, to use Netscape under UNIX, just type "netscape" at the UNIX prompt.
