Concepts syllabus
NOTE: on days we have critiques begin hanging your work as soon as you
enter the classroom. Always bring your sketch book, tools, and materials
to each class unless otherwise indicated.
The calendar is flexible and subject to change depending on progress by
the class as a whole. Periodically, I will assign exercises and new assignments
that are not included in the list.

Introduction to VC
I, syllabi and course expectations; review the materials list.
Bring to next class
all your tools that you have purchased at this point. Purchase your tools,
materials as soon as possible. After each class you ought to make entries
into your journal regarding what was discussed during class. Begin making
preliminary drawings as often as possible.
Assign
Project 1: Plane Line Point composition
Create 30-40 thumb-nail drawings in your sketch book.
Bring your drawing,
paper, sketchbook, cutting and measuring tools to next class.

into the classroom. Make sure your name and assignment parts are well marked

Assign PROJECT #2: Infinite space,
3-dimensional representational environment, and flat space. Materials; drawing
& painting.
Demonstration of
extreme flat, shallow, and extreme space. Mixing paint creating a grey
scale study. Class discussion regarding representational vs. abstraction.
Subjective vs. Objective. Flat vs. space perspective. Grey scale on the
computer.

the computer.
Demonstration of
drawing techniques; thumbnail, scale, gesture, contour, etc. The mechanical
vs the organic line..
Review the parameters of
PROJECT #3 and begin collecting and gluing your found materials to

IN PORTFOLIO with sketch book, and all assignments up to this point.
Make sure that you have clearly labeled with your name, VC I section,
assignment #, name of the project and the parts, such as a, b, c,
on each assignment. Also include your name on the outside of the portfolio.
It would help if you have them in order as they were due. If you have
extra credit projects included in the portfolio please organize them
in such a way that I know what they are and when you did them. If
you also redid any assignments make sure you include the old original
work along with the redue. |
