GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS


UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND BALTIMORE COUNTY, Department of Education invites inquiries and applications for graduate assistant positions in education.  A full time graduate assistant is expected to work twenty hours a week from August 15 to June 15.  Occasionally 1/2 year appointments are available.  A graduate assistant is expected to register for a minimum of six credits of course work or thesis research each semester but may take or audit up to ten semester hours each fall or spring with tuition remitted.  Current UMBC Department of Education Graduate Assistants must reapply for positions within the department each year and must compete with pool of new applicants

Types of Graduate Assistant Positions in the Department:
-Assistant to the Chair (undergraduate and graduate programs)
-Assistant to Graduate Program Coordinators (ESOL and Early Childhood)
-Assistant Coordinator, Post Baccalaureate Teacher Education Program
-Assistant to the Chair for Departmental Technology, Research and
  Program Development
-Assistant to Director of Sponsored Research and Program Development
-Assistant to Directors Ph.D. Program (Language, Literacy and Culture)
-Assistant with The Egyptian Teacher Leader Program (pending funding)
-Assistant with Urban Teacher Education Program

Responsibilities:
Assignment of duties will depend on the specific program and background of the applicant.

Duties may include assistance with one or more of the following:
Liaison to Schools
Practicum and Student Teaching Seminars
Research and Program Evaluation
On-site Supervision of Practicum (Field) Experience
Students
Teaching Assistant
Computer Data Input and Management
Administrative Aide Duties

Required Qualifications
Earned Bachelor's Degree
Must be seeking graduate degree at UMBC
3.0 GPA at undergraduate or graduate level (if some graduate work
has been completed)

Compensation:
Stipends for Master's and Ph.D. Degree Students begin at $11,102 per
academic year (2002/2003) and 10 graduate credits with tuition remission.
