The visual and textual material in this issue of Visual Anthropology focuses on the societal context of cinema in India. Common themes of articles in this volume include: the prismatic presence of cinema in contemporary Indian public culture; modes of reception of Indian entertainment cinema that subvert or extend the meaning of the film text in unexpected ways; and the important subtext of globalization in analyses of Indian entertainment films. |
