Computational Fracture Mechanics and Composites

Welcome to the Computational Fracture Mechanics and Composites Laboratory! Located at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The CFMC Lab is part of the Mechanical Engineering Department and operates under the direction of Dr. Panos G. Charlambides. Computational research conducted in the CFMC Lab includes modeling studies on the mechanical behavior of ceramic or polymer matrix woven composites, studies on algoritm design for the intelligent 3-D reconstruction and meshing of actual microstructures, bimaterial interface fructure, constitutive modeling and damage evolution in high performance CMC systems, toughening and integrated hierarchical modelinging of complex microstructures, as well as fundamental studies on numerical techniques such as the method of finite elements and studies on the development of technology transfer tools such as the DENDRO software.
