1. Library reserve packet: "Introduction"
Includes: Day, et al., 1989, Estuarine Ecology,
selections
Warner,
1975, Beautiful Swimmers, chapter 1, "The Bay"
EPA
Chesapeake Bay Program, 1995, "Introduction to an Ecosystem"
The reading from Day provides basic background information about important characteristics of estuaries. The material in Warner can be gotten from other sources but this is a particularly well-writtten piece and can be read quickly. The EPA document is also available on the World Wide Web, but without the graphics. It is bookmarked on the class home page, but I find it reads better when the graphics are part of the document.
2. Apart from these readings, there are several other items at the top of the list of links on the class home page. I recommend you read the following.
Chesapeake
Bay Fact Sheet
Chesapeake
Bay: Introduction to an Ecosystem (unless you read the hard copy, in which case this is
just duplication)
A
capsule history of the Chesapeake Bay, by Kent Mountford
State
of the Chesapeake Bay, 1995
