What is
this course about?

Assigned readings Because there is no single book that is suitable as a text for this course, required readings are selected from a variety of sources. Most of your readings will be in folders of photocopied materials available at the reserve desk in the library. There are 5 copies of each folder on reserve; there are varying loan periods but at least one copy of each folder is on three-hour reserve to make sure there is always a copy available. I also have a master copy of the contents of each folder, which you can sign out from me for an hour at a time (you'll have to leave your student ID). The syllabus provides the title of the folder assigned for each week. Bring your reading list to the library with you. Before you leave the reserve desk, compare the actual contents of the folder with the list of items that are supposed to be in the folder. If anything is missing, notify me immediately and let the people at the reserve desk know there is a problem. If you choose to photocopy some of the readings, please do so without taking the staples out of the folder; when the folder is taken apart, some of the pages invariably get lost or put back out of order, which creates tremendous problems for other students. My master copy has no staples. I expect you to read all of the assigned material and to keep your readings up to date. I suggest you take notes on the important points in each of the readings; this will reduce the amount of time you have to spend re-reading them in preparation for an exam. In addition to the library reserve readings there are a number of documents that are available on line, and all assigned online documents are bookmarked from the page describing the readings for that topic. You may wish to print these out and read them rather than simply scanning them from the computer screen, because you will be responsible for their contents. |
