Understanding Earth 2.0
The CD-ROM that came packaged with your textbook has excellent resources that should be
helpful in studying for this class.
For each of the assigned chapters, I recommend that you use the following:
- The Resource Browser for each chapter identifies all of the figures, tables,
supplementary photos, etc. that are available for the chapter. You can view each figure
together with its caption.
- The interactive exercises will give you practice with terms that apply to different
geologic features or processes.
- Many chapters (other than the first three) have animations and video clips that will
help you visualize important processes.
- The review questions (under Q&A in the menu) are multiple-choice questions that are
generally relevant to the types of information you will be expected to know on the exam. I
write my own questions and do not use test banks, so don't expect to see these same
questions on the exam. However these questions should give you a fairly good indication of
how well you have mastered the material.
- Try the interactive geology tools, some of which have detailed databases that will
provide information and illustrations (for example, you can quickly review important
characteristics of the major types of igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic rocks).
- The illustrated glossary provides definitions and pictures for a large number of terms
that may appear in the textbook or in your class notes.
If you have difficulty getting access to a computer where you can use the CD-ROM,
please let me know and I will try to make arrangements to help you out.
