Citing your sources

Some of your assignments will involve use of online resources and many of those resources will be derived from the lists of links I have provided for you. However, regardless of where the information came from, it is required in all cases to provide an adequate citation. The advantage of posting your assignment to the class discussion group is that, when you type in the url or world wide web address of a source, anyone else reading your posted message should be able to access that same site simply by clicking on the typed address.   If you are describing information found at a particular web site, just include the address in the text of your posted message. If you use one or more sites for background material that forms the basis for a substantial part of your assignment, then include the web address in a reference list at the end. Printed sources, such as a book, journal or magazine article, also should be cited in a reference list at the end. Standard formats for citing references are available from many sources. You can click here to see just one example for reference formats. If you are writing a formal paper or report and using a Web site as a source, try to provide the same kind of information that you would for a printed source (if it's available): author(s), date, title - together with the url at the end.
