1. Enter the "Compose Message" "C" command within pine. Once you type "C" you will get the familiar e-mail message header with the "To:" prompt at the top.
2.To send the message to a newgroup use the ^R command to turn on Rich Headers (remember ^R signifies hold the control key and press the letter R). When you do that you will see three additional message heading lines appear. One of these is named Newsgrps:
3. Enter the name of the newsgroup you wish to send mail too (e.g. umbc.course.geog210h or umbc.course.geog416)
4. Compose the message as you would any message.
1. Select "L View Folders or Newsgroups" in the main menu.
2. Press the down arrow key so that the Newsgroup collection is highlighted.
3. If you have not subscribed to this newsgroup you should do so. To do this enter the command "A" for Subscribe. Then enter the name of the newsgroup you wish to subscribe too and press enter.
4. The newsgroup will be highlighted on your screen, press the enter to view the messages in the newsgroup.
Once you are subscribed to a newsgroup you will see the newsgroup available to you after you complete step 2. If you are subscribed to multiple newsgroups the name of each group you are subscribed too will appear on your screen. By using the arrow keys you may select the newsgroup you wish to read and press return.
If you read a message on the newsgroup and wish to reply to that message you may do so with the Reply command "R", as if you were replying to a mail message; however pine will ask you if you wish to send the message to the newsgroup instead.
