Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics
Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics
I teach the Thermodynamics class in the Department. As in any other thermodynamics class we cover 1st and 2nd laws, equations of state, cycles, chemical reaction equilibria, etc.
I believe students should be engaged and some times it is hard to make them think about the subject we teach as not a requirement to graduate. Homework and exams in this course are a given, but every semester I spice it up with different activities (projects, papers and written document - all to do with thermodynamics). I think these types of efforts reach a higher number of students and there is a chance that the class becomes a memorable experience compared to the teacher just talking and writing in a blackboard 100% of the time.
Projects vary from using thermodynamic simulators to calculating the energy balance of a cabin with a wood stove as the heat source. Written assignments vary from letters about the Energy policy or their opinion on different types of renewable energy.
