Art489 IMDA SENIOR PROJECTS
Art489 IMDA Senior Projects
OBJECTIVES
This course offers the highly independent student an invaluable
opportunity to locate individual ambitions for success in a long
term career in the Fine Arts and Imaging and Digital Arts. This
capstone experience offers the mature student the creativity necessary
to develop beyond the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts, with an
emphasis in Imaging and Digital Arts. The highly motivated student
necessary for this course works both with great freedom and great
responsibility. Students who are not accustomed to self-directed
creative work may find this course to be very challenging with
difficulty to succeed.
METHODS
This course will offer one on one mentoring in order to individualize
the research necessary for a capstone project, as well as guidance
on how to communicate and professionally exhibit that project.
Demonstrations in documenting work such as shooting slides, film
recording etc.; as well as creating video documentations and web
site documentation; and professional Guest Speakers will guide
students through the process of successfully packaging a cohesive
representation of themselves. A Mid-term capstone project will
be presented and include a written thesis to be critiqued offering
students the structure to well communicate their projects and
offer best possible feedback, suggestions and expose each other
to a broad range of creative solutions to portfolio projects.
A final portfolio and professional proposal package will offer
students practical management necessary for promoting their careers.
PROJECTS
Students will produce a professional proposal in accordance with
either School33 Art Center in Baltimore or Siggraph in Los Angeles.
Students will learn how to professionally evaluate and communicate
the direction of their projects. Self evaluation will include
organizing documentation into slides, media (CD, Video and/or
on-line and hard copy web sites) and various printed matter for
a cohesive proposal and comprehensive formulation of creative
research. This package may also be used as a portfolio towards
acquiring grants, exhibitions, graduate school, media venues or
industry jobs. On an individual basis, students will learn to
specifically communicate the relevance of their ideas to the broader
culture through an artists research paper. Students will work
independently throughout the first half of the semester executing
their independently proposed capstone project.
ATTENDANCE
Because of the individual nature of this course, much of the class
is devoted to one on mentoring, offering specific guidance as
well as research time for students projects. Students must sign
up for at least 2 appointments by the Mid Semester Project and
2 additional appointments by the second half of the semester.
STUDENTS MUST BE PREPARED WITH WORK TO SHOW FOR THESE APPOINTMENTS
OR THESE WILL BE CONSIDERED AN ABSENT. Guest speakers will be
an important part of the two sections of this class. All guest
speakers will be invited during campus FREE HOUR (Monday/Wednesday
1-2pm) and are manditory. Technical Demonstrations will be conducted
in the later part of the semester as part of portfolio needs.
All class schedules will be posted on the Instructors door (338a),
as well as documented handouts and email. Students are required
to keep track of the class schedule and it's updates.
