Short Online Films on Transgender Issues
What follows are suggestions for short, online films dealing with transgender
issues, films that would be suitable for an introductory Women's Studies class.
The suggestions were offered in response to a query on WMST-L in January 2009.
For additional WMST-L files now available on the Web, see the
WMST-L File Collection.

Subject: youtube clips or online films on trans identity/issues?Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some short, online films that
deal with issues re. transgender that would be suitable for an
introductory Women's Studies class. Personal narrative pieces would
be fine, as would political or historical pieces. I'm less interested
in academic presentations / filmed readings.
Thanks in advance,
Jessica

I use this clip of a transwoman explaining why she is a feminist in my
intro to Women's and Gender studies class.

The documentary TransGeneration is available on Itunes (and Netflix!).
The documentary follows 4 college students as they transition. I've
shown just the first section for my intro. class and it is usually
enough for students to begin a discussion.
Transman Diaries (follows a transman's transition - these are
a select three that I showed in class)
Transman Diaries 1:

I recommend She's a Boy I Knew by Gwen Haworth about her transition
from male to female. She's a filmmaker and this is a personal
narrative that is really powerful and very well made. I showed it in
a second year class and my students loved it. You can find info about
it here: http://www.artflick.com/ There are various clips on youtube
and other places online.
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but this video is an
excellent video that humorously analyzes the issues surrounding
restrooms (Jessica's note: I did use it in class - it's
"The Politics of Piss" and we found it very useful):
