English 301 - Analysis of Literary Language

TEXTS

1) Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama (4th Compact ed.)

X. J. Kennedy and Dana Gioia (Longman)

2) A good hardcover dictionary

3) A grammar handbook (strongly recommended)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

1) Four close-reading papers. The first will be due on Monday, February 21, and will count for 15% of your final grade. The other three (dates to be announced) will each count for approximately 25%.

2) Miscellaneous exercises and quizzes.

3) ACTIVE participation in class (class participation will count for 10% of your final grade).
