I apologize and have to speak for the physics faculty on the tenure and promotion language change via email. In general we oppose the language change for the following reasons: 1. "Community engaged scholarship project outcomes" is not specific and concrete. It doesn't provide any useful guidance. If there's an insistence on including community engagement as counting towards promotion & tenure, then the acceptable outcomes would need to be much more clearly specified, in as unambiguous a way as the other examples. 2. The language change would reduce the importance of peer-reviewed work in the tenure-reviewing process, which is not appropriate for a a research university. If a vote on this will take place tomorrow and Senate accept vote absentee, I will vote against this change representing the physics department. Sincerely, Yours, Pengwang Zhai Assistant Professor, Physics Department.
