Katherine has a B.A. in psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in
Worcester, MA
and a MSW from the University
of Pennsylvania. Prior to her employment with UMBC, she
worked as a therapist providing cognitive behavioral and motivational
enhancement therapy to individuals with alcohol and substance dependence in Philadelphia. In 2001 she moved to Maryland
and worked as a therapist at a mental health rehabilitation program in Prince George’s
County. She worked with individuals
with severe and persistent mental illness in individual and group settings. She currently teaches Information
Technology in Social Work and Social Work Methods I. She is the faculty advisor for the Phi
Alpha Honor Society. She is also
interested in student stress and coping skills and is currently working with
colleagues on a research study. She
is a member of CSWE, NASW, and Mid-Atlantic Consortium of Directors and
Coordinators of Field Education.
Prior to the birth of her son she was also the field coordinator and
worked to place students in field placement sites. She is now working part-time and
Kathleen Leiser now fills the position of the field coordinator. Kathleen
