Higher Education for Illegal Immigrants in Maryland |

As high school students, you will decide in coming years whether to attend college, whether at a trade-school, community college, or four-year institution. One of the major factors that will help you make that decision is the cost of the education. In Maryland and in in many other states, residents are eligible for state financial aid and in-state tuition. This financial aid is available in the form of scholarship, grants, and low-interest loans. In Maryland, students who are considered “illegal immigrants” are not eligible to receive in-state tuition or financial aid. 10th Grade US Government and Politics students will explore this public policy issue through this Webquest. This project addresses the following Content Standards from the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum for Government: ¨ 1.A.1- The student will evaluate how the principles of government assist or impede the functioning of government. ¨ 1.B.1- The student will explain roles and analyze strategies individuals or groups may use to initiate change in governmental policy and institutions. ¨ 3.B.1- The student will analyze the roles and relationships of regions on the formation and implementation of government policy Students should have access to the internet to conduct research on the issues.
