Volunteerism |
|
I greatly value my involvement in the community as a volunteer. I consider experiential learning through service to be the most rewarding and worthwhile component of my education.
Maryland Leadership Workshops (2003-present) I have been actively involved with Maryland Leadership Workshops, Inc., a 52-year-old organization that implements leadership programs for Maryland youth. I have staffed for five years and served on the policy board for two years.
Students Sharing Coalition (Fall 2007) I volunteered at William H. Lemmel Middle School in West Baltimore during the Fall of 2007 through the Operation Aware Program of the Students Sharing Coalition. Specifically, I worked with students facilitating community engagement curriculum.
West Baltimore Middle School (Fall 2006-Spring 2007) During my first year at UMBC, I volunteered at West Baltimore Middle School in a sixth grade classroom for my service site experience for the Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars program. This experience has inspired me to pursue urban education in Baltimore City.
