Public Key Cryptosystems

• Diffie and Hellman introduced the idea of public key cryptography in the mid 70’s

• Solves the secret key problem

  • Furthermore, the key systems are divided into a public part and secret part

• The Encryption process E ( M ) must be a “trapdoor” one-way function

• Digital signatures are possible due to public key cryptography
