familiarity with a high-level programming language,
and a working knowledge of the UNIX operating system,
or instructor approval

Kendall Atkinson, Elementary Numerical Analysis,
second edition, John Wiley & Sons, 1993.
A copy of the textbook is on reserve in the library.

The homework is weighted so heavily, because it includes the
computer assignments that are vital to understanding the course material.
The date of the midterm is to be arranged in class.
