Of the nearly 700 meteorite falls cataloged in the U.S., more than 17%--most of them iron-nickel types--have clustered within this relatively small geographical area that is centered on Mt. Mitchell (NC).

2005 Update- There have been some recent discussions amongst aficionados of meteorite newsgroups that revised data of meteorite falls in the US may have mitigated the mystery of Farrington's Circle. If a conclusion, based on hard evidence, is reached on this argument, it will be presented here.
