NO PLANE FOUND AFTER CRASH IS REPORTED

Law enforcement officials in Monroe County searched for a possible missing plane more than five hours Sunday before calling it quits.

Sgt. Michael R. Yordy of the Indiana State Police Post at Bloomington said a resident of southern Monroe County called police about 8:50 p.m. Saturday to report a plane crash.

State Police, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies and Department of Natural Resources officers searched an area near Hickory Ridge, where Monroe, Lawrence and Brown counties converge, Yordy said.

The search resumed about 8 a.m. Sunday but was called off about 1 p.m., Yordy said.

He said a check with airports in the area found no plane missing.

"If anybody has any information or if anybody has a friend who is a pilot and has failed to arrive, we need to know," he said.

"We are coming up high and dry."
