Class Projects/ learning environment
Your portfolio:
At the beginning of the semester, you will choose one topic of personnal interest on which you will work for around ten weeks. You will constitute a portfolio in which you will keep all pertinent documents on your topic: newspaper articles, surveys, e-mails, web addresses (with description and brief assessment) and class discussion threads (Check Assessment for details).
Your oral presentation:
Toward the end of the semester you will present your topic to the class and a working draft of your contribution to our Web site (Check Assessment for details).
Your class contribution:
At the beginning of the semester, the class will select topics and determine the events schedule. Each week, one of the selected topics will be discussed in length in WebCT. As the topic expert, you will moderate the discussion. Your partner will help you moderating.
Your partner:
At the beginning of the semester, you will choose one partner whith whom you will work during the semester. Your partner should be working on a related subject. For instance, you may be working on the French educational system (e.g., elitism) while your partner will focus on school violence.
You will be responsible for your own work, though.

Class procedures
The class will meet twice a week. During classtime, we will discuss our topics, view some videotexts, elaborate surveys, decide upon new class strategies, etc. This will serve as background information for our WebCT Forum discussion.
In WebCT, one student (with the help of his/her partner) will engage students on specific issues relating to his/her topic. At the end of the discussion ( Forum will be open for 10 days), the moderator will post a resume and analysis of what came out of the discussion. This work should be printed and kept in the portfolio and be incorporated in the web contribution.
All students are expected to participate (at least two substantial contributions per topic ), share addresses, articles, new info, with the class.
At the end of the semester, students will present their topic portflio and web contribution. The Web contribution will be posted in WebCT for all to comment on. it will then be posted on the Web.
