Get a gold medal on all the 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc courses, and you will get the credits. After you reset your machine, the title screen should have changed.(The picture will be different.) Then, select GP Mode and there will be a new option under 150cc. Select that and the tracks will go the other way! (The tracks won't be backwards like in Wave Race 64.)
As soon as the light turns blue, hit the gas and hold it. You should get a nice turbo boost! Be careful, if you hold the button down too soon, you'll spin out instead!
When you hit a banana peel put on your brakes immediately. This will prevent you from skidding out. After you broke for 1 second release and giver the gas. This is really helpful in battle mode because you will not LOSE A BALLOON. I found this very useful.
When you fall off the edge and the little guy picks you up and the screen will go black. As soon as the screen starts coming back count - 1 thousand, 2 thousand, 3 thousand. Now pull your trigger and you should regain most of your speed. If you don't like counting wait until Kart is about 2-3 tires above the ground then pull the trigger. This could help save you 2-4 seconds.
You think you're good at Mario Kart 64? Then try testing your skills against NCL's best times! Mario Kart 64 has three perfect time trial boards. Secretly programmed into the game are "course ghosts" that represent the development team's best time trial runs for those boards. The ghosts will follow the exact same path that corresponds with their time. The first thing you must do is go into the Time Trial mode and pick your player. Next, you must choose one of the levels below and get a time better than what is listed.
For example, if you get a time of 1'51"47 (which is under 1'52"00) on Luigi Raceway, then when you immediately retry after that, it will say, "NOW -- MEET THE COURSE GHOST!!!" You will then race against a ghost of Luigi. (On Mario Raceway, you'll race against Mario, and on Royal Raceway, you'll race against Peach.) Even after you turn off the power, you'll still be able to race against each course ghost without having to achieve the needed time again. The course ghosts are automatically saved to your cartridge -- there's no need for a Controller Pak. Having trouble meeting those times? Make sure you understand and know how to do the "mini turbo boost" sliding technique. It involves holding down the R button to slide around a corner, and while you continue to hold down the button, you have to "steer" the joystick to the opposite direction and back. If you did that correctly, the smoke will change from white to yellow. Repeat the "steering" motion again, and the smoke should change from yellow to red. Once the smoke is red, let go of the R button. If you have your speedometer on-screen, you'll notice your speed go up for a few seconds. You'll need to repeat this technique around every almost corner (and sometimes you'll have to do it several times around one corner) to have a fighting chance. There is a possibility that there may be a course ghost for each of the eight drivers and their boards in the game, but we assume that there are only ghosts for the three "Raceway" boards. Wondering what happens if you beat the course ghost? As far as we can tell, absolutely nothing happens. But hey, at least you can call yourself a "pro" once you beat them.
If you like N64 as much as I do then feel free to look around because this has everything you need. Also if you have any comments then please me and tell me what you think.
