Hide and Seek
Let's play a game, you and I,
Of hide and seek.
I'll hide first and see
If you can find me,
I trust you know the rules.
I'll hide behind a veil of words,
If you would read between the lines
You'd see me...staring back at you.
Or I'll hide in the shadow
Of plain sight, hoping
That your eyes so bright
Might see me standing over there,
And yet, somehow,
They don't.
Or I'll paint a picture of myself
In strokes too broad to see up close,
Too small from far away,
Knowing from one perfect spot
You could see me,
But instead you turn away,
Sick of playing childish games,
And so am I.
The game will end like all the ones before,
In the dark of night
I'll find myself
Alone.
