Progress
RZ's first assignment as a platoon leader was a routine search and destroy mission. Part reconaissance, part active combat, it was a common sort of event in this war. After successfully dispatching four separate Coalition platoons with little loss, RZ's superiors took particular notice. Typically, a platoon would suffer between 25 and 35 percent casualties in such missions. RZ might lose 15 percent on a bad encounter, but no more. More than that, as time went on, he began to note tendencies and patterns in the opposition, and to exploit them. The Coalition forces never adapted, although they, too, were quick to notice that they were losing ground.
But RZ could only do so much as a lowly platoon leader. He lobbied his superiors for more responsibility and got it. His successes grew larger and more impressive. By the 240th year of the war, the Coalition had been cut to pieces. And now, a people crafted solely for the purpose of making war, faced the prospect of inconceivable peace. The pockets of Coalition resistance had it easy in comparison, although they died quickly, doomed by their nature, and by their circumstances. But the Alliance, having won, was at a loss for what to do. Prefect Creel assembled his top advisers, and he invited RZ to this council.
