Combat

The platoon lay about drone 1826 in ruins. 11 others still stood, waiting for orders from their dead commanding officer. The enemy had fallen back for the time being, waiting to pick off the defenseless drones at their leisure, having already dispatched 108 of them with relative ease. With no commander, the drones had only one available directive: survive. From the look of things, survival was unlikely. Until drone 1826 decided to make history.
"This way, now," 1826 ordered. The other drones followed without question, although 1826 was no command-class drone. He entered a nearby shot-out building that still held a bee-line to the high ground. That was 1826's goal. Therein lay survival.
1826 did not question why he took command. He did not think twice about giving an order, although he wasn't programmed to do so. He didn't even have backup command subroutines in case of such a situation arising as this one had. That this was revolutionary didn't matter; survival did.
1826 led the way onto the roof. There was no resistance, so he positioned his troops. A short distance away, he had a full view of the enemy platoon which had decimated his own troops. They were waiting to pick off stragglers from what appeared to be the only was back to 1826's base. They were as good as dead, despite a 5:1 advantage in numbers.
"Set targets," 1826 ordered. A second passed without incident, and then the ambush was reversed. The enemy was slaughtered to a drone before they even knew what was happening. The task completed, 1826 took his troops back to base to await new orders.
