Already Yesterday's News

Human nature is a strange thing.
What is it about people that makes them so envious, so curious, about the affairs of other people?
People want things to make sense...they want the world to make sense to them. Not to everyone else, or even anyone else. I do, too, to a certain extent, although I know that the real world is a step or two beyond any form of logic I can apply to it (look at the poor play of the Chicago Cubs since 1906). I like to believe that good deeds will be rewarded and evil ones repaid with swift justice. I know that's not often the case, but sometimes I'm more hopeful than others.
The rumors seem to have stopped flying around, although I'm not known for having a rabbit's long ears, particularly about rumors which mean next to nothing to me. Even the ones which have something to do with me are mostly just amusing, since I'm usually the kind of person who does ill to no one, although I generally choose a strange way to do no harm (some doctors could learn from me...).
Which is just as well, because as far as I know, nothing worthy of bathroom stall lore has happened to me recently. Although things have been going well recently, nothing worth a juicy column in the Weekly World News has happened, at least that I know about (and if it has, where the hell have I been).
Apparently I've been engaging in unusual behavior (read: talking to people), and people around me, no doubt concerned for my well-being, have read far too much into the course of events. That's just as well...gives them something to do, since they don't seem to want to talk to me (can't blame them...honesty is boring).
Naturally, with nothing to feed the rumor mill, the particular rumor floating around about me has probably given its last gasp, at least for a little while. Not that I've looked into it (I might have to ask one of my friends who's closer to the field of fire), but fewer people are outright asking me stupid questions. That's a good thing...as time is precious, and I have little patience for idiocy.
Actually, that's not true. I have incredible patience for idiocy...as it gives one wisdom to listen to foolishness without anger. Or at least more patience. I'm not sure what wisdom is right now, but I know that I've been pretty happy recently, and I can at least point to a catalyst for it.
I also earned a rather distinguished designation related to my line of work the other day, something called a FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute). Apparently, that means I've passed 10 college-level courses, and thanks to an awesome incentive at work, I get a free trip (for two, no less) to San Antonio at the end of next September (the last week of the baseball regular season, but I'll take it). Of course, I have no idea who's coming with me (I've had a few offers...and a few suggestions, but we'll see), but I get to lay siege to the Alamo, which in and of itself is super cool!!!
Actually...I passed 12 of those college level courses in just over 5 months...which is impressive to most people, although I'm historically a very good test-taker. The sustained effort impresses me more so than the time elapsed, because I know at least one person has done it faster (mad props to Gene, who should build his own website). Having done that, it seems that people think I'm some sort of authority on the subject...and since I've actually offered to help at least two people, well, I feel kind of like a fraud, but we'll see how my two friends do. If it goes well...we could be looking at a cottage industry.
In the course of this meandering rambling, naturally, the idea for a new part of this website comes to mind. Actually...cookies came to mind, but hard on their heels was the thought of adding (of all things) a recipe section. A section devoted to recipes...yours, mine, other peoples', random stuff from the Marquesas Islands, it might be more promising if more people would actually visit the site, but as I keep it up mostly to ramble, I'm not concerned (yet) with the number of hits. Plus...I have enough recipes of my own that I can put together a respectable page of that single-handed. With food, though, the more is definitely the merrier. Send me your best!!!

As for any rumors about yours truly, they must be LAUGHED at. Remember that.
