Martha Ross Center for Oral History

Grades will be based on the following aspects of the student's performance, with approximately equal weights for the following four products.  All  students will be assessed as to competence in a core set of understandings and techniques, with a spin applied depending on the student's anticipated career goals.

bulletOral history as a methodology--5-page review paper on some critical aspect of the technique; completion of human subjects protocols for chosen interviews; overall planning and execution of interviews.
bulletBiographical interview, portfolio, and presentation--brief (30-min) interview of one individual concentrating on his or her life history or career.   Portfolio includes: proposal identifying and explaining choice of individual; correspondence and associated forms; pre-interview research notes; interview tapes; interview transcripts; post-interview catalog entry and abstract.
bulletThematic  interview, portfolio, and presentation (same as above)
bulletClass participation and specific class assignments
