Texts: The following books are required for the course and are on sale at the University Bookstore. Mason, Stephen F. A History of the Sciences. New York: Collier Books, 1962. Bowler, Peter J., and Iwan Rhys Morus. Making Modern Science: A Historical Survey. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2005. ISBN 0226068617 (Please use Bowler as your main text and guide to the entire course, supplemented, if you wish, by Mason. Each of these books provides an overview of the course in one author's voice. Mason represents a somewhat older version, and Bowler represents the latest scholarship.) The following books are required, and provide in-depth coverage of particular centuries and topics.
